After interviewing local botanists, 15 conservation agencies and 20 ex situ facilities, the 2012 assessment below revealed the following:

1360 The number of native plants in Hawai‘i

724 Species of Conservation Importance (SCI) were identified

528 Total SCI represented in ex situ collections statewide

27% SCI are UNSECURED, not represented anywhere

64% Of collections represent ≤10% of the remaining plants --such a small representation does not yet constitute an adequate "genetic safety net" to prevent extinction

9% SCI with collections from ≥85% of the remaining plants
